Solar Pump - Panel Care and Use
- Make your own creative solar fountain..
Pump size: cylindrical
in size - 2.25" long x 1.25 diameter
Solar panel size: (shown in picture): approx. 7" x 7" - framed in
lightweight metal - cord length (shown at right): approx. 14 ft. Comes
with easy-plug connectors. Pump plastic tubing not included (but it's
usually available at aquarium supply or hardware stores).
Easy
to use, no tools required (unless you want to mount the solar panel on wall
or roof).*

The long (14') cord shown allows you to place the panel away from the pump.
This solar panel and submersible solar pump easily fit together by way of a
connection (see picture). This connection is snug, and designed for
easy plug. We wouldn't call this connector waterproof (so protect the
connection against direct contact with water and moisture).
Note: The
pump shown always needs to be submersed completely in water or it will burn
out... and only works with the solar panel - 4.8 volt type. The
pump works quietly by direct current (DC) --powered by the solar panel only
and does not
work by plugging into household AC current.
Playful feline
Muppet (A.K.A. Grouch) shows off the Solar Pump/Panel box (cat
not included).
Pump Notes, cont'd: The solar pump can become clogged if the
fountain is not kept free of algae and debris. Indoor use is the best.
The pump is strong enough to keep the water flowing in your fountain (as
shown), but will not shoot too far up into the sky like other stronger
pumps.
Rememeber this: The pump must be completely submerged for it
to work successfully (it is quiet, unless it is vibrating a little against
the bowl). Must be cleaned periodically, depending on how much you use
the pump and your environment, especially if you use it outdoors.
Easy-to-follow directions come with product. If you make your own
fountain, the tubing that connects from your fountain piece to pump intake
not included (available at aquarium supply or hardware shops).
Using the Solar Fountain Pump and Fountain:
The 4.8 volt submersible pump is for use in a small to medium size pottery
bowl that can hold water. The pump has been designed for outdoor use,
however, you should avoid areas with a lot of foliage, leaves or other
debris. Distilled water and/or rain water is recommended for
the pump to avoid build up of minerals and sediment.
The panel:
The accompanying 4.8 volt solar panel provides power for the pump.
Naturally, the pump works the best in direct, full sunshine without
clouds or shadows. Be sure that the connection between pump and
panel is tight and protected from water. Caution: Do not touch
the solar panel connection when the sun is shining on panel or you could
be shocked.
Cleaning the pump:
Over time the pump may become clogged due to debris or dirt. To clean,
remove the pump cover at the base, remove the impeller and clean out the
housing. Replace the impeller and cover and test to make sure it's
working. Periodic cleaning of the pump is recommended.
Check the tubing:
if
there is a leak, check your connections, especially the tubing that
connects to the output stem of pump. It must fit tight over all
connections. Tubing can be purchased at an aquarium supply store
or hardware store. To stop any vibrating noise from the pump move
it from touching the pottery bowl by using a small piece of neoprene or
rubber.
